We researched a ton of crossover statistics on both the potential Oscar noms & winners. Some surprising winners of the overall nomination tallies clue us in to the most formidable contenders. Then we also breakdown the awards season resumes for most of the field. It’s another jam-packed Oscar Race Checkpoint episode from us, and we hope you enjoy the show half as much as we did recording it. In terms of the format, we chose to go category by category through all of the nominations of the British Academy of Film & Television Awards, and we worked in major segments from each of the three major guilds that weighed in today. So we worked in a discussion on the Producers Guild Awards during our discussion of BAFTA’s Best Film category, the DGA’s during Best Director, and both sets of WGA noms while we reviewed the Best Adapted & Original Screenplays. Of course, we don’t shy away from the controversy caused by the British Academy today, and although we hadn’t yet seen the statements made by their leaders at the time of our recording, we do plan to give those statements their due in an upcoming episode. Nevertheless, we did not hold back. So as you always do, we hope you’ll share your thoughts with us.
