Over the last few years, the rise of populist and far right parties in a number of key European countries has been a feature of the changing political landscape. With the emergence of Giorgia Meloni into the mainstream, and others like Farage and Le Pen similarly seeking to 'detoxify' their parties to make it as potential parties of government, it seemed that some major change was on the cards. But then Trump came along, and that excited the true radicals, who wanted to upend the institutions not inhabit them. And it then created a toxic association all of its own, that now those parties are desperately trying to distance themselves from. It's all up in the air. Let's discuss.
