104. Capability + Commitment = Transformation

The Metabolism, Muscles, and Mindset Podcast - A podcast by Ali Novitsky, MD - Wednesdays

Transformation is possible for everyone, no matter what kind of transformation you’re looking for. All it takes is following the three C’s: capability, commitment, and consistency. By creating goals and boundaries that you’re capable of achieving, you’re more likely to commit to the change you want to make, and, above all, be capable of actually following through on that transformation.   The Three C’s to Lasting Transformation Capability Commitment  Consistency   Create Realistic Goals for Transformation You can’t achieve transformation without a few key concepts: capability, commitment, and consistency. Capability means that you’re actually capable of doing what you set out to do. Commitment means that you’re going to stick through to see your transformation through. To achieve any kind of lasting transformation, you need to be capable of achieving it while committed to seeing it through. You can create your own capability by setting realistic goals. And when your goals are realistic, you’re more likely to commit to them, too. It’s also so important that you have a balance of capability and commitment because when one is higher than the other, you’re unlikely to achieve the transformation you’re looking for. This is also why it matters what kind of commitment you make - it has to be one you’re actually capable of doing.   Capability, Commitment, and Consistency One of the commitments I’ve recently made to myself is to get more and better quality sleep. While this is a transformation on its own, I’d also say that getting adequate sleep is essential to creating any kind of transformation in your life. If you’re too tired, you’re more likely to skip the commitments you’ve made yourself and be physically and mentally incapable, as well. But when you commit to something that you’re capable of, everything changes. You start to see that you can be consistent with what you’re doing. And when you’re consistent and start to see positive changes, you are absolutely more likely to create that lasting transformation. Finally, let’s talk about boundaries. By knowing where your boundaries are, you’re more likely to stick within your three Cs and know exactly where and how much you need to do to transform. When you know the realistic goal that you’re capable of achieving, you will commit and be consistent with reaching that transformation. What transformation are you looking for? Are you capable of it? Are you committed to it? Watch yourself be consistent to see that transformation. Let me know in the comments on the episode page how you’re going to achieve your transformation.   In This Episode  What happens when you don’t have both capability and commitment [4:30] How setting realistic expectations relates to capability [6:00] Why you need a balance of both capability and commitment to achieve transformation [7:00] How to overcome the feeling of restriction during an eating plan [11:00] How to set a commitment you can actually be consistent with [15:15] Why not getting enough sleep impacts your ability to transform [19:00] The benefits of committing to something you’re capable of [20:00] How setting boundaries can help you achieve the transformation you desire [27:30]   Quotes “If we are capable to do something and we are committed to taking the actions to do it, we will experience a transformation.” [1:22] “Transformation can occur when we are capable and committed.
