The hard yards: Campaigning for statutory guidance on restraint & seclusion in educational settings
Let's Talk Social Work - A podcast by BASW

Categories:
Revisiting an incredibly important issue, this episode explores the restraint and seclusion of children and young people in educational settings. In June 2021 the podcast episode ‘Ending restraint & seclusion’ examined work to deliver updated guidance on the use of restrictive practices of children with additional needs in schools in Northern Ireland. Since then, much has happened and the recent publication of the Northern Ireland Department of Education’s Review of the Use of Restraint and Seclusion in Educational Settings marks a significant step towards the delivery of the guidance. Andy McClenaghan is joined by Koulla Yiasouma, the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Deidre Shakespeare, a campaigner, family advocate and expert by experience, and Carolyn Ewart, Director of BASW NI to discuss the progress made to deliver statutory guidance on the use of restraint and seclusion. To read the Commissioner for Children and Young People’s research referenced in the episode, please visit https://www.niccy.org/restraintandseclusionreports Hosted on Acast.
