The Cost of Living Crisis
Let's Talk Social Work - A podcast by BASW

Categories:
As we head into the winter, millions of families across the UK are facing a cost of living crisis. Huge increases in electricity and gas prices, and spikes in the cost of vehicle fuel come in the wake of the Government’s recent decision to remove the £20 uplift to Universal Credit which was helping to keep many families afloat. Andy McClenaghan is joined by Amanda Bailey, Director of the North East Child Poverty Commission, Vikki Waterman, a mum of two and anti-poverty campaigner, and BASW UK Vice Chair, Lewis Roberts. They explore the many ways poverty affects people, the impacts it has on children’s development and life opportunities, and how social workers can better support families experiencing financial hardship.
