David Yates & Lawrence Grey join Kyle Meredith to talk about the film, Pain Hustlers (out now on Netflix), which tells the story of Liza Drake (Emily Blunt), a blue-collar single mom who has just lost her job and is at the end of her rope when a chance meeting with pharmaceutical sales rep played by Chris Evans puts her on an upwards trajectory economically - but dubious path ethically - as she becomes entangled in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Dealing with her increasingly unhinged boss (Andy Garcia), the worsening medical condition of her daughter (Chloe Coleman), and a growing awareness of the devastation the company is causing forces Liza to examine her choices and ultimately gives a revealing look at what some people do out of desperation and others do out of greed. The director and producer discuss why they wanted to take on a story about the fentanyl epidemic and how this movie shows us a look behind the curtain of Big Pharma, as told through the sales reps. Grey, who also produced the Steven Soderbergh-directed The Laundromat, tells us how some of the most outlandish parts of the story came from real life, while Yates talks about directing Emily Blunt as a complicated hero/villain and how her character is already resonating with viewers. Yates, who famously directed the final four Harry Potter films as well as the Fantastic Beasts trilogy, discusses what it was like to leave the World of Wizardry to get back to a more point-and-shoot style of filmmaking.Listen to David Yates & Lawrence Grey sit and chat about all this and more in the new episode or watch it on Youtube.
