He later learns that Mildred & her friends called in the alarm. Beatty tells Montag to burn his own house with a flame thrower. Faber hears this through the bug in Montag's ear, and tells Montag to run. Beatty hits Montag, and knocks the ear piece to the sidewalk. Montag points the flamethrower at Beatty and burns him, and hits the other two firemen. Montag is attacked by the hound,  injuring his leg before he burns the hound to death. Montag is on the run and makes it to Faber's house, where he drinks whiskey and gets a new set of clothes. En route, he stops by a co-worker's house to plant books and call in an alarm. The hound arrives at Faber's door, but then leaves. Montag head toward the river and eludes the hound. He meets a group of old men, lead by a man called Granger, who are former writers and professors. The group remembers books with the hope that one day they will be able to print the books which they keep in their memories. Granger tells a nice story about his grandfather.
