Mildred fears Beatty will come and burn their house because of the books Montag has hidden in the vent. The mechanical hound scratches at their door. Montag remembers the old man he met in the park, and consults his file of future investigations and finds the old man's name Faber, listed. He visits Faber after asking how many copies of the bible are left. He wants to print one before they are all burned. Faber thinks Montag is brave for wanting to steal books and make copies of them. Faber tells Montag that what he seeks cannot be found in books they are just receptacles of information, and that Montag is missing three important pieces of information.
