He meets Miss Pross and asks her whether the doctor or Lucie speak of the doctor's days as a shoemaker, as he (Lorry) finds it odd the Dr. Mannette should keep his instruments from those days. Miss Pross, who is devoted to Lucie, talks of her frustrations at having so many suitors vying for Lucie's attention, but Mr. Lorry sees no evidence of that.
