Noah Jung, 17, clarinet

This week, we feature recordings made by clarinetist Noah Jung. Originally from Hoffman Estates and a former member of Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, he went to high school at the Music Academy of the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Today’s performances are recordings made in his last few months at Colburn. Starting the clarinet when he was three years old, Noah Jung is a graduate of the Colburn Music Academy where he studied with professor Yehuda Gilad. Noah is the recipient of first prizes in domestic and international competitions. Most recently, the National YoungArts Foundation selected Noah as a finalist in the classical music category of their annual competition. Other musical achievements include winning prizes in the Accademia Italiana del Clarinetto’s Web ClarinetOnline Contest and the Silverstein Clarinet Contest. Noah played with NYO-USA in summer 2021, and has been selected to tour with NYO-USA again summer 2022. He has also played with both Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and the Colburn Youth Orchestra as principal clarinetist. Noah performed Leonard Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra for the Ravinia Festival’s 100th-anniversary Bernstein celebrations, and also performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Colburn Sinfonietta after winning the school’s annual Concerto Competition. Noah has been accepted to many of the top conservatories in the U.S such as the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School of Music. Noah will continue his studies as a Columbia-Juilliard exchange student in the fall.

Om Podcasten

Introductions is WFMT’s weekly Saturday morning program that features talented pre-college classical musicians in the Chicago area. Soloists and chamber ensembles perform live in WFMT’s Levin Performance Studio. Large ensembles, including orchestras, choirs, and bands, are recorded at their home venues and broadcast at later dates. The program also features youth music competition winners. While many students who appear on Introductions pursue other careers, some have gone on to study music at some of the most prestigious music schools around the world and pursue careers as professional musicians.
