There are certain aspects and moments about transitioning into adulthood which are truly universal....On this episode we dive into an excellent piece of independent Canadian cinema that is incredibly representative to the queer experience when young people are finding their footholds in adulthood. It's time for 'Soft'.'Soft' follows three adolescent friends who become enraptured in the queer nightlife scene over summer break before a missing persons pulls them back into the reality they have chosen to leave behind. While audiences could be used to films like this playing with a heavy handed clumsiness, there's something in 'Soft' which plays so much more humanistic then could have ever been expected. It's in theatres now here in Toronto and is rolling out across the country in the following weeks. We had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with writer/director Joseph Amenta to talk about the origins of the story, the style of the film, making something that is unique to the queer experience but also universal to the humanistic experience all at the same time and so very much more.
