I think it could be very important. The most important reason for this trend has got to do something with a city's identity. As it is known to all, the appearance of a building is a part of a city. Apparently, it is very important to us. Visitors and ordinary people might learn something one or two according to those buildings. Specifically, the appearance of a building you know.
