When I asked Some Guy in Austin if he wanted our first non-Bachelor related podcast to focus on John Travolta, he shouted "YES" before I could finish my question. Needless to say, Tony, Danny, and Bud shaped my adolescent self in the '80s and the same can be said for my friend. We have a ball talking about our favorite John Travolta memories. Saturday Night Fever was formative for SGIA. Behold the power of disco: Can't you imagine SGIA dancing the same moves? Oh, you can't? Well here's a little video to help you visualize... We also discuss the Staying Alive strut. In case you have no idea how it's done, here's a tutorial: Y'all know that Grease is one of my favorite musicals, and you probably also know that I played Cha Cha DiGregorio in my high school musical. I wore a black square dance skirt and my mom's red scrunchie. The man I'm standing with was our principal Mr. Knight who sang "Beauty School Drop-Out." Not only was Grease the word, it was EVERYTHING to me growing up. The music, the dancing, John Travolta's chin dimple. It was all good. And then Urban Cowboy came along and the everyday vernacular of the Ray household changed. You can read all about it HERE. Some Guy also shares about the time he met UNCLE BOB (a.k.a. Barry Corbin and the old man in every Hallmark movie) ... ...and I share about the time I actually met John Travolta. Sadly, the proof is in storage tucked away in a box hiding behind a rather large couch. Don't think I didn't try to dig it out, because I did. Oh how I wish you could see my face. You'll know why after you listen. And finally, here's a picture of us trying to mirror a painting of Bud and Sissy in some cheesy bar in Austin. We love John Travolta. We think he's electrifying and hope you do too.
