On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, I'm chatting with the cast and crew of Sky's amazing new British sci-fi series ‘Intergalactic‘, which premieres Friday, 30th April 2021 on Sky One and NOW, with all episodes on demand.Written by award-winning showrunner Julie Gearey ('Prisoners Wives', 'Cuffs', and 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl'), 'Intergalactic' tells the story of a young cop and galactic pilot - Ash Harper - who has her glittering career ripped out from under her when she is wrongly convicted of a treasonous crime.Ash is sentenced to exile on a prison planet and loaded onto a prison spaceship – The Hemlock - for transfer. But... she never reaches her destination as there is a mutiny on board the ship, staged by her fellow inmates. With the flight crew dead, mob leader Tula Quik is intent on reaching the free world – Arcadia – with her gang... and the reluctant Ash, who is trying to clear her name, is the only pilot left on board. As the gang go "on the run" across the galaxy, they will travel to many planets, make friends and encounter dangerous enemies, all the time with the authorities on their tail. As the journey continues, Ash begins to re-evaluate her dangerous cohorts... Could it be that this group of female fugitives are on the wrong side of the law, but the right side of history? The interviews feature relative newcomer Savannah Steyn who plays the lead, Ash Harper; Parminder Nagra (ER, 13 Reasons Why, Fortitude, Agents Of Sheild) who plays Ash's mother Rebecca... who also happens to be Head of Galactic Security for the Commonworld; Craig Parkinson (The English Game, Temple, Misfits, and of course, Line Of Duty), who plays Dr Benedict Lee, leader of the Commonworld government, who is also a brilliant (and seemingly somewhat shady) scientist; Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune, Rogue One, Sex Education) who plays Tula - a dangerous, and volatile female gangster; Newcomer Diany Samba-Bandza stars in her television debut as Genevieve, Tula's daughter, who has undergone some... interesting... weaponising body modification..; Thomas Turgoose (This is England) who plays Drew, a prison guard who is the only member of the crew not killed during the mutiny, and has a thing for Genevieve; Imogen Daines (The Witcher, Black Mirror) who plays Verona, a reckless cyber hacker who revels in the delicious irony of being locked up alongside the cop who arrested her - Ash Harper; Oliver Coopersmith (Tin Star) who plays space pirate Echo that Ash meets in episode two, and has the charm of Han Solo with the swagger of Jack Sparrow, and the epitome of a loveable rogue; And Iona Vrolyk who is Executive Producer on the series.I was lucky enough to get a preview of the first three episodes of the series before these interviews, and it is going to be well worth a watch. If you’re old enough to remember ‘Blake’s 7’ that is a sci-fi which really feels like it was a touchstone for the series, albeit updated for the 21st Century. ‘Intergalactic’ is a great action sci-fi, which also has some wonderful humour and a superb array of characters… Oh… and some Phil Collins… I can’t wait to see the rest of it!‘Intergalactic‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 30th April 2021 on Sky One and NOW in the UK.
