Welcome to the latest Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. On this episode, I'm chatting composer Matthew Janszen.Matthew began performing piano at the age of 5, but, as is somewhat appropriate for us, he is a bit of geek, and has always been fascinated with the correlation between math and music. This led him to a degree in Acoustical Engineering from Purdue University in Indiana, before receiving a scholarship to the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles and later the BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship to study with composer Mike Post. He also studied at the ASCAP Film and TV Workshop with Richard Bellis and was awarded the Harold Arlen Film and TV Award.Since 2007, Matthew has worked on a string of movies and tv shows for people such as Lifetime, SYFY and Hallmark, working in both animation and live-action. He's also provided additional music for shows such as 'Law and Order: SVU', 'Be Cool Scooby-Doo', and our very own 'Line Of Duty'.His latest work saw him score the Netflix film 'Fatal Affair' starring Omar Epps and Nia Long, which is something of a reverse 'Fatal Attraction', as brief encounter takes a dangerous turn when Ellie (Long) discovers her old friend David (Epps) is more unstable than she realized. He also scores animated series such as Tony Hale's 'Archibald's Next Big Thing' also for Netflix, 'ThunderCats Roar' for Cartoon Network, and upcoming HBO Max animated series, 'Aquaman: King of Atlantis'.In the interview, we talk about his route into the industry, and touch on all the current shows Matthew is scoring, along with chatting about his work on the multitude of Christmas movies (there are a lot!). Plus we chat about his work with other composers, and his love of 'Star Trek'If you'd like to hear more behind the scenes interviews, don't forget to rate and subscribe to where ever you get your podcasts by searching for "Geektown Radio".
