Categories:
In Part 2 of this story, retired Intelligence Detective Gary Jenkins continues looking into the drug investigation and conviction of Sammy Gravano. The listener learns how local drug dealer Michael Papa befriends Gravano’s son, Gerard Gravano. The Phoenix narcotics squad is picking up rumors about a new gang selling ecstasy, muscling other street-level dealers, and claiming to be under the protection of the famous Gambino hitman, Sammy Gravano. The local cops still do not believe this to be true, but they continue investigating. The U.S. Customs arrested an Ecstasy courier at the border and turn him into an informant. They learn he has been supplying a friend of the Gravano family named Michael Papa. This is the final piece that allows the police to bring in the DEA and go up on a wiretap of Papa. They quickly learn that Papa and Gerard Gravano used poorly coded conversations about selling drugs. From this, they spin off into more wiretaps, some of which are on Sammy Gravano and his family’s phones. These taps lead them to the final conversation they use to file charges against the Gravano family. Gerard Gravano calls his mother and tells her his Dad said it was ok to send 70 to give to Mike. Sammy Gravano’s daughter transported the money to Sammy Gravano. he calls his wife and complains the delivery was short $5,000. Sammy Gravano and his wife argue, and later Gravano admitted he miscounted.
