Joining our BRAND new host Remie Michelle Clarke and Seán T. Ó Meallaigh is Writer and Showrunner Paul Walker. Paul enjoys working across various media. He is equally at home writing black comedy, campaigning or state-of-the-nation drama, friendship group stories or site-specific multi-media theatrical experiences. Recent work includes: thriller series NORTH SEA CONNECTION for Mopar Media Group, Sweden/Subotica Entertainment, Ireland; THE PROFESSIONALS (fka SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE) for Roadside Attractions, US/Subotica Entertainment, Ireland; and CALL THE MIDWIFE Series 9 for Neal Street Productions/BBC1 (2020) where his episode guest starred the inimitable Phil Daniels. As well as developing original television drama, Paul has extensive experience on long-running series. He has had a long and productive association on RED ROCK for Element Pictures/Company Pictures/TV3, Ireland, initially joining the show as Story Producer on Season 1 in 2015 and subsequently Studio Producing Season 2 and taking on Series Producer (Editorial) duties on Season 3. He was also on writing duties on both Season 2 and Season 3 and was nominated as ‘Best Writer’ in 2016 for his work on the show. The series won ‘Best Continuing Drama’ at the Irish Film and Television Awards 2015, 2016 and 2017. Paul has just won the Writers’ Guild of Ireland Zebbie Award 2019 for Best Continuing Drama Script for RED ROCK Episode 187. Other work on long-running series includes episode writing on EASTENDERS Series 18/19 (BBC Studios for BBC1, 2018-19) and Story Producing on on BBC Scotland’s RIVER CITY (2014). Authored work for television includes: controversial award-winning two-parter on the STARDUST disco fire which won ‘Best Drama’ at the Irish Film & Television Awards 2007 (Merlin Films for RTE, produced by Norman Siderow, directed by Cierán Donnelly). Paul co-wrote De Facto Films’ drama series AN BRONNTANAS for TG4, Ireland with director Tom Collins, Joe O’Byrne and Eoin McNamee. This was nominated in the Scripted Drama category of the Irish Film and Television Awards 2015 and was also recut into a theatrical motion picture which had its world premiere at the Galway Film Festival 2014. It was Ireland’s entry for the Foreign Language category of the 2015 Academy Awards. Feature film projects with development funding from the Irish Film Board include: original horror project NORWEGIAN WOOD and fact-inspired period Gothic story developed for director William Roe THE LAST WITCH, both with Danú Media; and Celtic epic THE NAVIGATOR where Paul co-wrote a number of drafts with director David Keane for Black Sheep Productions.
