Today we're talking about New Year's Resolutions and I gave you some tips on how you can set yourself up to have successful goals, rather than things you quickly give up on. Remember: Make your goal realistic Make it achievable Don't forget to motivate yourself Vocabulary taking stock - usually at the end of the year or the end of a project we look back and see what we have achieved, understand where we could have done better and make a future plan stick to - phrasal verb - to not give up, to keep going mammoth task - idiom - a big or daunting task scare off most people - phrasal verb - scare off - to stop someone from wanting to go ahead with something because it's too daunting or scary short space of time - we can use 'space of time' to mean 'period' or 'amount' of time. bite-sized chunks - a common phrase when we talk about breaking something down. A bite-sized chunk is small enough to fit into our mouth, so it's nice and easy. sign up - to agree to do something, can be used for free or paid-for things fully grasped - to fully understand or appreciate feel compelled - to feel like you must do something set yourself up for success - phrasal verb -set up - to prepare for, to do the 'groundwork' or beginning part of a process or project. 'He set his son up in business' - the father gave his son money and support and maybe even a building or tools to start his own business. 'I set that shot up for him' - in sport when one player gets into the right place or sends the ball to another player that results in the second player scoring a goal or point.
