Episode 23 - What's the difference between using One Day and Some Day in an English Sentence? Find Out In THIS episode!

On English we often use 'one day' or 'some day' to talk about the future. When we use these we don't know exactly when something will happen in the future, often we're not even sure if it will happen at all. If you know that you want something to happen in the next few years then you're much more likely to say 'I want to get a new job in the next few years.' We have a time frame in mind and we use that in our sentence. 'I know I want to get married one day.' - Can be used at any age to talk about a hope of marriage in the future. 'If I have children one day...' - We're not sure if it will happen (if) and we don't know when it will happen (one day). We use 'one day' and 'some day' to talk about hopes, dreams and worries in the future. An older person might say, 'what if something happens to me one day?' when they are worried what will happen to others around them when they die. 'One day I hope to visit America.' - Something we want to happen but we don't know when it will happen. 'Some day I hope to visit America.' - This seems less certain, more of a dream that for some reason doesn't seem as likely as 'one day'. 'If we meet again one day...' - maybe we will meet, but we don't know when. 'If we meet again some day...' - more wistful, less certain.
