Today on the podcast we have a short episode introducing Technical English. In general this is a branch of English that you don't need to worry about. It's a simplified English to help people understand instructions. In most cases you will be reading Technical English rather than creating it. In this episode I also suggested using ChatGPT at work. Scrolling through Instagram I follow a lot of influencers talking about modern work. It's clear that work is changing and that new technologies such as ChatGPT are vastly changing how people spend their time at work and what they prioritise. At first I was really against ChatGPT, and I still strongly disagree with the morals around how it was created. People whose content was used to train the algorithm should be paid and the algorithm should have special inputs to ensure it isn't biased like the internet is. However, the technology is already out there. You can't stop it, and it's unlikely any of the legal cases being brought against it will put the AI genie back in it's bottle. So instead, learn how to use it effectively to save yourself time and help you boost your own skills. In this episode I mentioned the 4 advantages to Technical English, these came from this article: https://ehlion.com/magazine/technical-english/ Vocabulary Jargon - words that are related to a specific field and often not used elsewhere or used differently elsewhere, can be used to categorise words that industries use that we don't understand Bluetooth - the technology we use to connect devices Gen Z - Generation Z is the generation of people born between the mid-1990s and mid-2010s. Many are now entering work and they are changing it as they arrive. Millennials - are the generation were born between 1981 and 1996 Put the AI genie back in it's bottle - idiom - from common stories about genies such as Aladdin, we have similar idioms using Pandora's Box. We tend to use them when a problem arises that we can't undo. Now that AI is out here, it's impossible to tell people not to use it.
