This week we're looking at some English Grammar. I have collected all the sentences from this episode from things my students have said. The correct use of 'well' is quite a common challenge. This is understandable because we can use 'well' to talk about how we feel, then it's an adjective, or we can use it to talk about a skill or ability level and then it's an adverb! In this episode we will have lots of chances to see how to use 'well' in different scenarios and hopefully you'll have a chance to test your skill and see if you can work out the right answers. I hope this will help you know how to solve this problem in your own English. Today's sentences 'I don't feel very well' In this kind of sentence 'well' is usually an adjective and we're talking about our health. 'My English is not very well'. In this sentence we need an adjective to describe the noun 'English'. 'My English is not very good.' 'I think the Internet is not very well.'The internet doesn't have health trouble! So 'well' isn't going to work. 'I think the Internet is not very good.' 'I sleep not very well.'In this case the 'not' is the problem, it's in the wrong place and we have a word missing. 'Well' is fine in this sentence. 'I didn't sleep very well.' 'My cat miss her very well.'So here 'well' doesn't work. We can't use 'well' for negative things, instead we need to talk about the amount of feeling. So we need a measurement word. 'My cat miss her very much'And one more change we need to improve the grammar. 'My cat misses her very much' 'Some children good very well at maths.'In this case we have both 'good' and 'very well'! Too many things. We can choose one or the other. So we have two potential sentences.'Some children are very good at maths.' This tells us about their Maths ability. 'Some children do very well at maths.' This tells us about their accomplishments in Maths.
