9. Nikhil Nair - Solar Energy in Kenya , Social Enterprise and Mobile Payment Systems in Africa

This past week I had the chance to sit down and speak with Nikhil Nair, a very interesting guy, originally Indian, studied at Oxford, worked in the UAE, US, Uganda and now lives in Kenya. Nikhil is currently working for a commercial enterprise in Kenya focused on bringing solar energy to areas with no energy at all.  Nikhil is purpose driven and is committed to enact some real change in the world!  We went into a bit of detail on what this entails with regards to solar energy and also spoke about the unique payments system present in Kenya - M-Pesa, which allows citizens of Kenya to bypass the need for banks and such just by using their mobile phones, think old Nokias.  We also told a couple jokes and went into a bit of detail on why Kenya has a relatively large Indian population and what happens at Indian weddings and how arranged marriages are set up!   Super fun conversation and I think both myself and Nikhil can agree that this was a great bit of cultural exchange. Romanian in Berlin and Indian in Kenya, looking forward to experiencing more and more of this cross cultural interactions.
