Taiwan, her culture like an melting pot of Chinese, Japanese and Western influences.  From outside of the island, the world sees her with controversial tensions over the geopolitics.  When the media started to focus on outstanding democratic society, Professor Julie Chen takes one step further and wants the people to view the Taiwan island from the people’s life and culture.  In the coming autumn semester (September - November, 2021), the Chinese study in University of Helsinki will organize a series of on-line lectures, six lectures and one film screening, each lecture featured by one specialist from different part of the world.  The ‘Spotlight Taiwan Helsinki’ academic lectures on Taiwan covers history, the indigenous civilization on language and music, taiwanese-language cinema, literature, the people’s life beyond politics on the offshore islands.  The events are free and open for the general public.  The organizer and facilitator, Professor Julie Chen said “I want people to get inspired to see that the people in Taiwan are real.  They have their different history, different life, and different values, just like all of all.  I wish those lectures give us more personal touch, not just geopolitical issues.”Info & registration about the academic lectures of Spotlight Taiwan Helsinki:https://blogs.helsinki.fi/spotlighttaiwan/https://www.facebook.com/helsinkichinastudieshttps://twitter.com/julieyuwenchen?lang=en
