Today the U.S. Senate voted to acquit former president Donald Trump on a 57-43 vote. Seven Republican senators joined Democrats to vote Trump guilty of incitement of insurrection, but falling short of the two-thirds majority needed for a conviction. The outcome was evident, but the trial exposes division in the Republican party and raises questions about the future of Trump himself.
