Raymond Zhao 赵英麒 | President of Oxford VC Network, Atheist (on Religion, Self-help, Dilemmas), Maths&Stats, Quant Strategies (AI, Blockchain, Tech, Career Future), China/Australia/UK Childhood, Loving

Happy birthday to our courageous guest Raymond! 😊Episode 85 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Raymond Zhao 赵英麒 is a Mathematics and Statistics student at Lincoln College, University of Oxford. Although he grew up on the sunny coast of Sydney, Raymond has lived in Australia, China, and now the UK. This diverse mix of cultural up brining sparked his passion for understanding different perspectives, and shaped his values around family, career and life’s purpose. Raymond is a keen reader of non-fictional books, especially around ‘self-help’, and has the fun tendency of getting into philosophical discussions when he’s drunk with friends. Despite wanting to be an architect as a kid, he somehow finds himself at the cross point between Venture Capital, AI, Entrepreneurship, ESG and Quant Finance. Right now, Raymond is pioneering Oxford’s first ever student run VC fund to help support and catalyst the University’s undergraduate start-up ecosystem. Raymond describes the challenges of balancing his social life and personal hobbies, such as basketball and piano, with his academic and career ambitions. And how the competitive environment at Oxford reshaped his perspective on life on how to navigate his ambitions, offering insights into the varied definitions of success and happiness. Raymond is also a firm believer of personal brand and coffee chats (insisting he ‘does not have a caffeine addiction’), and enjoys building relationships in many different communities, across continents. Although many believe Raymond’s life peaked when he played football with Maradona, Raymond himself hopes his journey has many more peaks ahead. Looking forward, Raymond’s keen to build a career and life that’s interconnected, stimulating and meaningful, wherever that path may lead him. "Speaking with David was such a pleasure, he is such a fantastic interviewer and was engaging and challenging in all the right ways. Sometimes making me do a double take on things I thought I was very certain about. Very thought provoking and we both had an great time, what an experience!" - Raymond Zhao 赵英麒 ---WHY?
