Episode 97 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Wilson Ying is a third year student at Emmanuel College in University of Cambridge reading Mathematics. Born in a business family, he developed an interest in the economic and business world through books and everyday chats with his family. Curious about the world, he went on to explore his interests in areas including science, robotics, football, and history. He joined the youth team of Hong Kong Premier League Club Kitchee during middle school and thought about playing professionally until he got interested in the mathematical world. Going further down the road of competitive mathematics, he faced one of the most major setback in his educational journey, but eventually managed to overcome it and successfully made it into the Hong Kong Team Reserve for the International Mathematics Olympiad in the subsequent year. After realising his passion in business and tackling real life problems, he actively explores his interest in the investment world at university. After serving as the portfolio head of Cambridge Student Investment Fund (CAMSIF) and interning as a quant investment analyst at a hedge fund, he worked at JP Morgan as a trading intern this summer to further pursue his career in the financial market. He also attempts to venture into the start-up space in his remaining years at university.“I really enjoyed chatting with David about all these topics for 1 hour straight—some of the questions really surprise me and even enable me to learn more about myself. From personal journey to topics on cultural values, David navigates through them well that it feels more like a casual chat between us.“ - Wilson Ying---WHY?
