Scrub fire causes evacuation of three properties in Canterbury

Checkpoint - A podcast by RNZ - Fridays

A  scrub fire caused the evacuation of three properties near Norwood in Canterbury, destroying a shed and leaving behind a trail of blackened vegetation and the smell of smoke. Fire and Emergency was called to the blaze between Burnham and Dunsandel, believed to have been caused by a vehicle tyre blowing out. It quickly spread to 30-hectares due to the hot, dry conditions, and teams remained on site last night putting out the flames and dampening down hotspots. Delphine Herbert reports.
