Over 100,000 households or about 1 in 16 are experiencing cramped conditions. It's been gradually trending upwards for more than a decade. Gisborne has the highest rates of over crowding at more than 10.5 percent, with Auckland in second place at just under 9 percent. Stats NZ principal analyst, Dr Rosemary Goodyear spoke to Lisa Owen.
