Episode 11: Sonia Haria

In this week's episode, our President of Education Pillar, Elizabeth Barnett Lawton, talks to our Advisory Board Member, Sonia Haria, Beauty Director at the Telegraph.Alongside studying Journalism at University, Sonia worked at one of the makeup stands in Peter Jones. It was here she found her love for the beauty industry and it's 'confidence boosting powers'. During her last year at university, Sonia left Peter Jones to start a 3-week internship at the Telegraph, this then led to a full-time job as a beauty writer for Stella magazine. In this episode, Sonia explains how she found herself in a very fortunate position whereby she was able to combine both her passions, Beauty and Journalism, in her everyday job.  Hosted on Acast. The negative impact of the pandemic on students and those aspiring to a career in the beauty industry has been huge. Many in the industry have been furloughed or laid off, while those studying for a career in the beauty industry have had to continue their studies online. Universities and colleges across the UK are planning to deliver a virtual curriculum, with little if any face-to-face contact. This will make motivation more challenging, particularly with less exposure to industry guest lecturers, who normally provide inspiration to students during their studies. In response to these issues, the British Beauty Council is launching a podcast series featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in the hair and beauty industry to discover how they have got to where they are today. From key lessons learnt along the way, to what advice they would give their younger selves, this podcast series aims to educate and motivate those starting out in the industry or wanting a career change.  Hosted on Acast.
