Episode 25 - In Celebration Of My Sisters

Episode 25 - In Celebration Of My Sisters Welcome to Building a Bigger Table The podcast for misfits, mavericks and magic makers who want to create a profitable, sustainable business that makes as much impact as it does income.    In This Episode:   Welcome to this special episode of the Building a Bigger Table podcast where I want to celebrate my sisters - all the women who have handled homeschooling and raising children at the same time as running a business or holding down a career.   I didn’t manage to completely coordinate this with International Women’s Day last week, but the truth is, this is relevant all year round. Especially right now in the UK, where we’re coming out of our third and most difficult lockdown and women really have been the unsung heroes of homeschooling.    Now, this is not to say that men don’t partake in parenting duties too, or that there are not single dads out there - those guys deserve equal recognition. But the reality is that most of the time, childcare and running of the household falls on the woman and makes it hard for them to dedicate enough time to their work as they’d like.    So this episode is not only a celebration of women, it’s a call to action for men to notice, appreciate and support the women in their lives by sharing the load. But ultimately, it’s a shout out to all the strong women out there. May we be them. May we raise them. May we raise them up. Key Takeaways: Share power and responsibility Women are just as driven as men Our children are our #1 priority Shout out for homeschooling heroes   Quotes: “I'm really hopeful that there's some men listening to this too. And that maybe it will just make you think, hold up a second. How can I support my partner just a little bit more?” “There's a lot of men out there who don't really recognise what is going on in a woman's life, especially when she runs her own business, because they are [...] purely focused on their own career, their own trajectory, and what is immediately in front of them that day.” “Women are not flaky, people. Women are focused. We are driven. We are committed. But we also prioritize our families. We prioritize our children.”   Meet Your Host: Hi, I’m Shaa. Shaa is the original misfit, maverick and magic maker.  Despite an Economics degree from The London School of Economics and a proud recipient of an MBE from The Queen, her real talents come from the school of hard knocks. Growing up on a council estate, Shaa learnt early on, that the only way to level the playing field was to first believe you could. Then go all in on making it happen.  Shaa’s first book, "Stop Talking Start Doing" became WHSmith's #1 Bestselling Business Book for 14 months in a row, breaking all industry records.  Shaa has never been one to sit on the fence or rest on her laurels and today her sole mission is to level the playing field and create real social mobility for all. The Sunday Times recently named her as “One of the top 20 most influential entrepreneurs in the UK”.
