Kemi Ilesanmi, executive director, Laundromat Project

Brooklyn Magazine: The Podcast - A podcast by Brooklyn Magazine

Categories:

For 10 years, Kemi Ilesanmi has been the executive director of the Laundromat Project, a community non-profit that provides resources and financial support for primarily Black artists and New Yorkers of color to create art in  public spaces throughout the city such as libraries, community gardens, public plazas and, yes, laundromats. And now, she is stepping down at the end of the year. We talk about her background and upbringing (hint: it doesn’t have a lot to do with art), what the LP has accomplished under her watch … and what’s coming next.   Brooklyn news and views you can use: bkmag.com  Email: [email protected]  Follow along on Facebook: Brooklyn Magazine  Twitter: @brooklynmag  Instagram: @brooklynmagazine  Follow Brian Braiker on Twitter: @slarkpope
