Anne Pasternak, director of the Brooklyn Museum

Anne Pasternak has been the director of the Brooklyn Museum since 2015 and is the first woman to lead one of New York’s two so-called encyclopedic museums. She succeeded Arnold L. Lehman who had been the museum’s director for nearly 18 years, during which time he reshaped the museum in significant ways, broadening its programming and seeking out a larger, more diverse audience. Pasternak, for her part, has both embraced and extended that almost populist legacy — think huge installations about David Bowie and Christian Dior — while also mounting important exhibits like the current “Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech.” Pasternak discusses her work and gives us a guided tour of the museum.
