You want to know what's going on in their lives, you want to know what's going on in their career, you want to know what they're doing outside of work, so you can get a sense of how they're spending their time and what they're doing during that time.When you know your team members' stories, then you can understand what it is that pushes their buttons, what motivates them. You can help them get better at what they do, you can give them the kind of feedback that they need to improve their performance.You can also understand when someone's down and out because let's face it, people get sick, people get tired, people get bored.They've been working in the same job for a while, they're not sure if they're getting paid enough or if they're getting paid too much or whatever it is. So keeping communication lines open is very important. Also, it's important to know about your team member's personal life. This will help you understand how you should approach them when things aren't going so well in their personal lives. Maybe something happened with their family or something like that.
