Before They Were Famous - A podcast by Michael McCrudden

It's not often you see a hip-hop duo consisting of just a boyfriend and girlfriend. Originating in the ATL suburbs, iLoveFriday burst onto the scene a year ago and shows zero signs of turning back. Comprised of rapper Smoke Hijabi and her man Xeno Carr, rapper/producer, i Love Friday has people mixed. But their witty style, unconventional subject matter mixed with hard Atlanta-centric trap beats has certainly sparked a buzz. Nevertheless, the two seem to be here to stay and are looking to have a profound impact on their listeners. Smoke Hijabi wants to be remembered for helping people realize their skills and worth among other things, while Xeno Carr aspires to change music forever. With close to 219K subs on Youtube at the time of this recording, they've certainly amassed a following of music fans who want to see what they've got coming next. In early 2018, their video for the song Travel Ban dropped pulling in 5.5 million hits in less than a year. That's around the time Xeno Carr realized the duo had made it. As for Smoke Hijabi, well she had already gone viral in the video for Hate Me, which featured her smoking weed while dressed in a Muslim hijab. The image sparked controversy, with several critics accusing her of disrespecting Islam. Even a celebrity chimed in. Well, at least that's what it seemed at first glance.
