From there and getting his start in New York kitchens starting off as a dishwasher. Money was tight but this didn't mean Anthony didn't partake in many vices including an addiction to heroin, alcohol, and coke. After rising to the ranks of executive chef, Anthony's personal life was still in shambles and it was an unexpected left turn into work as an author that would transform his life... It was Anthony's honesty with the culinary arts but also his own personal demons that gave him such mass appeal. The man would even often joked about his luck in being alive.
