Should I Match My Concealer to My Foundation?

It’s hard enough to find the right foundation shade — but when it comes to concealer, I get even more confused. Should my concealer be exactly the same shade, or lighter? Since foundation and concealer go hand-in-hand, wearing the same exact shade in both products seems like pretty sound logic (and it is!), but there's also a tiny bit of a catch.
