With the airing of Star Trek: Discovery, certain fans began to complain as they saw trans and non-binary representation plainly portrayed on screen. However, Star Trek - and indeed, many sci-fi fandoms - have historically been progressive for their times, tying their themes with relevant issues. From civil rights and cold war McCarthyism to gay and trans issues, Teegan and Lindsay dive into the discussion, pointing out how it seems some fans have simply missed the whole point of their fandom.
