#107: NONVERBAL AUTISM OR SPEECH ISSUES?

BAREFOOT AUTISM WARRIORS - A podcast by Ninka-Bernadette Mauritson - Thursdays

They call it echolalia or parrot language. Some children are described as "non verbal". I remember the fear and grief I felt, when I realized that my child wasn't actually communicating with us - he was repeating and copying our words. I almost fell for the old school approach (speech therapy, special needs support) that could have kept my child in communication prison. Instead, I quit speech therapy and instinctively I took my child outdoors and started the physical exercises that stimulates the part of the brain that creates new stemcells, more grey matter and hardwired skills like speaking, communication and learning. Since then - neuroscience has caught up with and supported the physical training methods that can help children who struggle with speech, communication, reading and writing. Unfortunately - the special needs education system and the speech and language support haven't quite caught up yet. That's why I have invited a special guest on the podcast today to talk about the neurological approach to speech and learning. We talk about: 👣Food that can impair learning - and speech development.👣What exercises to do BEFORE spending ANY time in school and speech therapy. 👣Why so many autistic children grow up non-verbal, struggle with echolalia or speech issues and why we have to look at the root cause instead of working on the symptoms. 👣Why brain training and neurofeedback plus sensory stimulation isn't creating LASTING change (and what actually does create change).👣Why noise-cancelling headphones are a BIG problem that can make it even harder for autistic children to learn to speak.👣Why Ipads, gaming, headphones and dairy can cause even more problems for children who struggle with speech.👣Why baby walkers, baby jumpers and a passive, indoor lifestyle is part of the problem. 👣The link between speech, communication and the inner ear/vestibular/cerebellum. 👣What exercises you can do at home in order to hardwire listening - and speaking skills for our children. And so much more. PS: Want to work with me?Send me a voicemail Join my exclusive membership course
