Deniese Davis - Producer of HBO's INSECURE & COO of ColorCreative

Angle on Producers with Carolina Groppa - A podcast by Carolina Groppa

Categories:

This week on the show we hear from the hella amazing Deniese Davis, producer AND the COO/co-founder of ColorCreative, a production company she started with Issa Rae that focuses on under represented voices. Deniese was born and raised in the blue collar work force of Las Vegas. She knew from a very young age, 16, to be exact, that she wanted to be a producer. Since no real entertainment industry existed in Vegas, she enrolled in AFI’s Producing Program and packed her bags for Los Angeles. After graduating, she earned her stripes working as a freelance line producer, working on MANY shoots with budgets under $100k. It is no small feat and speaks volumes to her work ethic and determination. The stars eventually aligned and she crossed paths with the equally as hardworking and ambitious Issa Rae. Together, they brought The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl to life. The show was a huge hit on YouTube and eventually became the blueprint for INSECURE on HBO, a hilarious comedy about female friendships and growing up. During our time together, we discuss why it’s important to take time to re-calibrate and reset your soul, why she is sensitive about the producer title, and how she finessed her hustle. Can't wait to hear what you think!   Beijos, Caca
