The abuser might refuse or threaten to remove sex if they don’t get their way. Withholding sex is a weapon to establish or maintain dominance. Using sex as a weapon to control is sexual abuse.Sexual abuse can also look like marital rape. Any time one spouse is not in agreement or has not willingly engaged in a sexual act, it is rape. It is any sexual act committed against a spouse’s will. The abuser may use physical force, threats of force, or psychological force, fear, or manipulation to engage in marital rape. 1 in 10 spouses are raped by their spouse. Any sexual act should be mutually consented - any time it is not, it is sexual abuse.Sexual abuse may also look like criticizing your physical appearance. Abusers might use offensive language about your body or your physical appearance. Abusers might use offensive language about your body or your appearance to undermine your self-worth. This is not love, it is a form of sexual abuse.Sexual abuse might also look like unwanted aggression during sexual acts. Hitting, choking, or using any type of force is also sexual abuse.SPIRITUAL ABUSESpiritual abuse is using Scripture, biblical concepts or belief systems to control, manipulate, or enforce power over another.
