Marine Rescue New South Wales has attended 600 call-outs since Christmas, performing 4,500 rescues last year amid rough seas and strong winds off the coast. The predominantly volunteer organisation, comprising 3,500 volunteers across the state, responds to preventable emergencies including boats running out of fuel, engine failures and battery failures. Seven drownings have occurred since New Year's Eve, including a 14-year-old boy at Palm Beach and a Nepalese student at Coogee.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
